CVSan Green Ribbon Schools Program: Fourteen Castro Valley Schools Certified!

Fourteen schools located in the Castro Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) and/or Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) boundaries have been certified by CVSan as Green Ribbon Schools for the 2023/24 school year. Certifications were awarded by the CVSan Board of Directors (Board) at CVSan’s May 7th Regular Board meeting.

In 2007, CVSan launched the Green Ribbon Schools Program to guide schools towards sustainable waste reduction. This year, schools were required to complete a minimum of 31 activities, such as providing recycling and organics containers in all classrooms. All schools had to achieve a minimum 90% diversion rate.

Awards are based on a $700 flat rate plus add-ons for school size. Extra credit is awarded for additional activities completed and excellence in diversion. Cash awards range from $800 to over $2,000. The 2023/24 Green Ribbon certified schools received the following awards:
